Apple has just made it official at its big September 2023 event: the highly anticipated iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are here. After months of rumors and speculation, Apple has finally announced the newest models of its flagship smartphone. They arrive alongside the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus feature slightly improved features over their predecessors, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. The phones come in lots of new colors that are sure to please. There’s also a great new 48MP main camera alongside new camera features, the addition of the Dynamic Island, and the arrival of the long-rumored USB-C charging plug.
New colors and design
Apple’s latest iPhone models feature an OLED Super Retina display that is compatible with Dolby Vision content. The screen has a brightness of 1,600 nits and reaches a peak brightness of 2,000 nits when used in direct sunlight. This is twice as bright as the maximum brightness of the iPhone 14. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are available in five colors: black, blue, green, yellow, and pink. All the colors except for black are very light shades.
The latest version of the iPhone has a new design feature that enhances its visual appeal. The back glass of the device is infused with a range of colors, adding a touch of vibrancy to its appearance. The glass is also strengthened through a unique dual-ion exchange process, which makes it more durable and resilient. To further refine the back glass, it is polished using nanocrystalline particles, which smoothen its surface and give it a lustrous finish. Finally, the glass is etched to create a textured matte finish that sets it apart from the glossy, reflective surfaces commonplace on most modern smartphones.
iPhone 15 camera upgrades
Although the iPhone Pro series will always be known for having a better camera system, this year’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have really stepped things up this time around. In fact, the camera upgrades are perhaps the best reason to buy them. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus now come equipped with a 48MP main camera with a quad-pixel sensor and 100% Focus Pixels for fast autofocus, a first for the regular iPhone. Comparatively, last year’s models only offered a 12MP main camera.
This main camera also gives users a new 24MP super-high-resolution default. The phone’s photography capabilities have been enhanced with a 12MP telephoto lens and an improved main camera. The portrait, night, action modes, and Live Photos have also been improved. The front camera now features autofocus and portrait lighting, which enhances the overall experience. Users can enjoy three quality zoom levels (0.5x, 1x, and 2x) with an extra 2x telephoto option.
The A16 Bionic chip is here
The A16 Bionic chip, first introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, has now made its way to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. This new chip features a powerful six-core CPU that is faster than the previous generation while also being more energy efficient. The chip’s six-core design allows for faster multi-threaded performance, with each core handling a specific task, resulting in faster processing times.
In addition to the improved CPU, the new chip features a 5-core GPU that provides 50% more memory bandwidth, ensuring smoother graphics performance when gaming or streaming videos. This means users can enjoy their favorite games and videos without lag or stuttering, providing a seamless and immersive experience.
The A16 Bionic chip also includes a new neural engine that can perform up to 15.8 trillion operations per second. This new engine handles complex machine-learning tasks such as facial recognition, natural language processing, and augmented reality.
USB-C, Dynamic Island, and improved connections
As expected, the latest iPhone 15 model now comes with a USB-C connector instead of the previously used Lightning connector. This change will likely enhance the speed of wired connections across the board. USB-C is now rapidly becoming the universally accepted data transfer and charging standard. Users can also use the USB-C connector to charge their AirPods or Apple Watch directly from their iPhone. Both models also support MagSafe and future Qi2 chargers for wireless charging.
The entry-level versions of the iPhone now also come with Dynamic Island, a feature previously only available on last year’s iPhone 14 Pro lineup. The Dynamic Island provides an innovative way to interact with phone notifications and Live Activities.
The new iPhone models also introduce a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. It allows two or more phones with the same chip to connect at three times the range as before. The new technology also improves the precision of the phone’s Find My feature.
The latest iPhone models come equipped with lightning-fast 5G technology, which Apple claims will significantly improve call quality. The phones also feature Voice Isolation, which filters out background noise to enhance audio clarity. Unlike traditional SIM cards, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus utilize an eSIM (like previous models), offering increased convenience and security.
Satellite safety features are better than ever
Apple is expanding the satellite safety features on its iPhones this year by introducing a new satellite-based roadside assistance service. This feature will be available exclusively in the U.S. and aid users experiencing car issues in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.
With this service, iPhone owners can contact AAA for assistance, regardless of their membership status. This service will be complimentary for iPhone 15 users for the first two years, while regular AAA members will have this service included in their membership.
A load of new iPhone cases

Apple has decided to discontinue the production of leather cases for its iPhone 15 series lineup. Instead, the company has introduced two new products: FineWoven Wallet with MagSafe and FineWoven Case with MagSafe, both of which are available in five colors for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus (black, taupe, mulberry, pacific blue, and evergreen). Apple has also launched a Silicone Case with MagSafe in black, storm blue, clay, light pink, guava, orange sorbet, cypress, and winter blue for the new phones. clear case is also available for purchase.
The Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 are also saying goodbye to leather accessories for the first time.
